St. Stephen Church (Iron Church)

Located in the Fener area of Istanbul, the St. Stephen Church, in other word known as the Iron Church, is a unique Bulgarian Orthodox church. Completed in 1898, it is totally made of prefabricated iron and an absolute first among churches at that time.

Its well-designed structure and elaborate ironwork give evidence of masterly workmanship from that era. This is regarded as the representation of the Bulgarian population of Istanbul, which is much revered due to its uniqueness in design and historical importance. It remains to be one of the great monuments that testify to the rich religious and cultural heritage of the city.
